Daisies Dress-up
Daisies, Věra Chytilová’s anarchic cornerstone of the Czech New Wave, is coming back to theaters this week in a new 35 mm print courtesy of Janus Films—so you can see the militantly mischievous Marie I and Marie II tearing down the world around them in all their colorful glory. The film will begin a seven-day run July 6 at Brooklyn’s BAMCinematek before making its way to other repertory theaters across the country through the rest of the summer and fall, including Cambridge’s Brattle Theatre, Columbus’s Wexner Center for the Arts, Nashville’s Belcourt Theatre, and more (consult the full list).
An orgy of bad behavior and terrible table manners, Daisies is also fabulously fashionable. In honor of this rerelease, our own Eric Skillman designed these paper dolls, along with paper versions of some of the unforgettable outfits worn by actresses Jitka Cerhová and Ivana Karbanová—including, appropriately, their climactic paper-scrap body wraps.
