Criterion Establishes a Canadian Home at Cinema Cellar

Last year, the Criterion Mobile Closet made its first international stop at the Toronto International Film Festival, welcoming more than a thousand visitors over the festival’s first weekend. This year, we’re excited to return to Toronto with a new home for the city’s film community.

To celebrate the store opening during TIFF 2026, Criterion is taking over the space throughout the festival, with an extensive selection of titles spanning the breadth of the Criterion Collection, alongside merch—with all Criterion discs 30% off. Cinema Cellar will serve as a destination in the heart of the festival action, offering audiences a place to explore the Criterion Collection at a store conveniently located near the festival’s major downtown venues.

Visitors will have a first look at Criterion’s forthcoming box set The Complete Kubrick, ahead of its official release on October 20, and the chance to shop for recent Criterion editions, including The Elephant Man, Network, Hairspray, Sentimental Value, and many others.

Cinema Cellar’s Criterion offerings will span classic and contemporary cinema from around the world, with a section where Canadians can rediscover some of their country’s most celebrated films. Among the Canadian titles available will be Criterion editions of David Cronenberg’s Crash and François Girard’s Thirty Two Short Films About Glenn Gould. Two Janus Films titles that had their Canadian premieres at TIFF last year, Magellan and Two Prosecutors, are currently available through the Criterion Premieres line. This year, Janus returns to TIFF with its upcoming release The Dreamed Adventure, making its North American premiere at the festival.

Beyond TIFF, Criterion will have a dedicated section at Cinema Cellar year-round, so Toronto movie lovers will always have a place to discover what Criterion has to offer.
