Atom Egoyan on Split Screen
In the 1990s, Atom Egoyan brought Canadian cinema into the spotlight with a string of widely acclaimed hits, including Exotica (1994) and The Sweet Hereafter (1997). This clip from John Pierson’s television series Split Screen features the director in 1999, bantering about his recent success and his identity as a Canadian filmmaker, on a talk show called “Manitoba Tonight.” Head over to the Criterion Channel on FilmStruck, where you can now watch the full interview along with all ten seasons of Split Screen, including recently added segments on William H. Macy and a Fijian cinema that claims the distinction of being the most remote movie theater in the world. We launched the show’s streaming debut last year, and now that we’ve reached the final season, check out Glenn Kenny’s recent profile on the show in the New York Times and our video of the twentieth-anniversary celebration that FilmStruck hosted at Film Society of Lincoln Center in May.
