Documentary Now! Hits the Trail

Need some respite from the twenty-four-hour news cycle? Bill Hader and Fred Armisen’s hysterical IFC Channel series Documentary Now! returns with some comedic salve for our weary election-season souls. The show—which kicked off last year with a teasing tribute to nonfiction classic Grey Gardens—has re-launched with a send-up of yet another Criterion title, and this time it’s one of American cinema’s ultimate behind-the-scenes accounts of the political process. The first episode of the season, now available to view on the IFC Channel’s website, spoofs the 1993 documentary The War Room, Chris Hegedus and D. A. Pennebaker’s deliciously entertaining chronicle of the good, the bad, and the ugly of Bill Clinton’s first presidential campaign.

In the video above, IFC offers glimpses of the hilarity that awaits, with generous helpings of Hader’s uncanny James Carville impression and some spot-on nineties period detail.
