Talking to Bruce Beresford

Bruce Beresford

This week, veteran director Bruce Beresford joins the collection with Breaker Morant and Mister Johnson, two early twentieth-century period pieces about colonialism and its destructive legacies. Beresford (seen above on the set of Mister Johnson) has been making movies for more than fifty years, in both his native Australia and America, directing art-house hits and acclaimed Hollywood studio films (his most popular surely remains the best picture Oscar winner Driving Miss Daisy). To coincide with our releases, Slant has posted an interview with the filmmaker about his work; “It’s a fun job,” he says at one point. “Really, what I like doing is telling stories. All I really try to do is tell the story as simply and directly as I possibly can.”
