Hamid Naficy

Hamid Naficy is a professor in the Department of Radio/Television/Film and the Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani Professor in Communication at Northwestern University, as well as a faculty member in Northwestern’s Middle East and North African Studies Program and Department of Art History. He is the author of the comprehensive, award-winning, four-volume A Social History of Iranian Cinema (2011–12), portions of which have been adapted for this essay, and of other pathbreaking publications, including An Accented Cinema: Exilic and Diasporic Filmmaking (2001), The Making of Exile Cultures: Iranian Television in Los Angeles (1993), and Iran Media Index (1984).
