Thomas Elsaesser

Thomas Elsaesser is professor emeritus in the Department of Media and Culture at the University of Amsterdam. He is the author of New German Cinema: A History (1989) and Fassbinder’s Germany: History Identity Subject (1996). His recent publications include European Cinema: Face to Face with Hollywood (2005), Film Theory: An Introduction Through the Senses (with Malte Hagener, 2010, 2nd edition 2015), The Persistence of Hollywood (2012), and German Cinema—Terror and Trauma: Cultural Memory Since 1945 (2013).
